Free standing Risers (SLOR and Hybrid Bundle)

SLORs and hybrid bundles take maximum advantage of m-pipe’s high strength to weight ratio. Studies show that the air-can dimensions required to support these risers are dramatically reduced with m-pipe®. Crucial savings are achieved through less fabrication and smaller deployment vessels on-site, for less time.  These factors combine to help significantly reduce installation risk.

Hybrid bundles need to be neutrally buoyant for tow out installation, substituting m-pipe® for steel pipe, delivers a significant reduction in the externally applied syntactic buoyancy material. In many instances the neutral buoyancy of the riser cross section eliminates the need for syntactic buoyancy .

Further benefits are achieved by the increased strength to weight ratio of the cross section making tow out less damaging to the core pipe and upending less critical and with less chance of overstressing the central core pipe.

When hot water in the buoyancy/pipe annulus can form a perfect corrosion environment, the use of non-corroding m-pipe®, in preference to coated steel pipe, is also a clear advantage.  This is especially the case where in-service inspection is complicated due to the proximity of buoyancy materials.
